5th International Frankfurt Football Summit

The fascination of football reaches and inspires millions of people around the globe. For this reason, football is a significant economic factor with enormous media coverage and corresponding growth potential. The 5th International Frankfurt Football Summit, powered by ZEIT Publishing Group offers an international platform of exchange on current trends in the global football industry in the premium setting of Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

On the 3rd of September, this year’s IFFS brings together international decision makers from clubs, leagues and the corporate world for high-level exchange and networking. As a tradition, the IFFS starts with an informal get-together for speakers, VIPs and selected guests on the eve prior to the conference.

Enrique Bonilla was born in Mexico City in 1958 and studied business administration at the „Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México“ (ITAM) where he specialized in the financial market, later developing mainly in the stock market. After operating in different brokerage firms he established a financial service company and was involved in opening one oft he largest rivers in Mexico for commercial and tourist navigation. As a company owner and consultant Bonilla developed new projects in the renewal energy sector until he became Sports General Director within the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación in 2004. From 2012 – 2015 he functioned as General Director oft he Primera División de México (LIGA MX) and the Liga de Ascenso before he was announced the organisation‘s Executive President in June 2015. Today Bonilla, together with Christian Seifert (Bundesliga) and Don Garber (MLS), forms the management group of the World Leagues Forum and is an independent member of the FIFA Audit and Compliance Committee as well as of the CONCACAF Compensation Committee.

Following his final exams at the German School in Barcelona, Carro successfully completed a training as industrial sales representative at BASF Española in Barcelona and his industrial engineer studies at Karlsruhe University in Germany. In 1993 he joined Bertelsmann AG in Gütersloh. Carro served Bertelsmann in senior management positions at the media as well as the educational section. Most recently, he led the Bertelsmann subsidiary Arvato, a service company with 70,000 employees, as chairman of the board. Alongside he represented Arvato as a member of the Bertelsmann SE board.
Fernando Carro combines the enthusiasm for football with a high-level economic expertise. His goal as CEO of Bayer 04 Leverkusen is no less than to establish this fairly known and respected club as a premium football brand, globally.

Professor Simon Chadwick is a researcher, writer, consultant, speaker and academic with almost twenty-five years experience working across global sport. He has expertise in marketing, commercial strategy, geopolitics and elite professional sport. Huffington Post identified him as being among the world’s top-30 most important sports marketers; The Independent ranked him amongst its top-10 most influential business people on Twitter; and The Times described him as Britain’s ‘guru of sport management’. Chadwick is Professor of Sports Enterprise and Director of the Centre for Sports Business at Salford University in Manchester (UK). He also Co-Directs, and is Senior Fellow of, the China Soccer Observatory (University of Nottingham, UK), and a research centre director with emlyon Business School’s Centre for the Eurasian Sport Industry (based in Shanghai, China). Simon has written countless articles, books and research reports for the likes of Sloan Management Review, the Wall Street Journal, UEFA, Mastercard and Financial Times Prentice Hall. In addition, Simon has worked with some of the biggest names in sport, such as FC Barcelona, Adidas, the Association of Tennis Professionals, Nielsen, the European Clubs Association and Ping. He is currently engaged in work examining the links between sports sponsorship and soft power; the industrial development of sports in the Gulf region; China’s quest to become a leading football nation; the phenomenon of transnational sports fandom; the role social media plays in sport; and the way equity in sports brands is built through experiential marketing.

Ernest Faber is a former Dutch footballer and current coach. Faber grew up in Eindhoven and has played for PSV Eindhoven since the age of thirteen. In addition to leases with NEC, Sparta Rotterdam and FC Groningen, Faber was part of the PSV team for 12 years, winning four Eredivisie titles, a KNVB Cup and four Johan Cruijff Shields. After his active career, Faber has held numerous positions as a trainer in both the youth and professional fields. Among other things, he won the Dutch Cup at PSV in 2011 and the championship title at NEC and FC Groningen in 2015. Since 2018, Faber has been active as head of the young talent department at PSV.

Currently Thomas Hitzlsperger is the head of sport of VfB Stuttgart where he fomerly officiated as director of the youth training center, as well as a member of the board – since 2017, the 52-time national player has been involved as a DFB ambassador for diversity.

Sebastian Kehl is a former German National soccer player. Following his (active) sports career, Kehl worked for the German television broadcaster ZDF as a TV expert from 2016 to 2018 and continued his further education at various levels: He completed a management degree at UEFA, gained valuable professional knowledge at the DFB and the DFL and obtained certain Coaching Licenses. Since summer 2018 he has been the Head of Professional Football at Borussia Dortmund. Kehl also supports the Roterkeil.net project, which fights against child prostitution.

Robert Müller von Vultejus studierte Sportökonomie an der Universität Bayreuth. 1994 schloss er sein Studium ab und startete im selben Jahr seine berufliche Laufbahn bei UFA Sports GmbH als Manager in der Medienrechtevermarktung. Von 1997-2002 verantwortete Müller von Vultejus, als Mitglied der Geschäftsführung, das europaweite Fußballgeschäft. Im Jahr 2002 wurde er Geschäftsführer der Sportfive GmbH und leitete das Deutschlandgeschäft des Unternehmens. Im Zuge eines Managements Buy outs und dem damit verbundenen Einstieg des Privat Equity Unternehmens Advent International wurde er Mitglied des Executive Boards und übernahm 2004 die Verantwortung für das weltweite Medienrechte Geschäft. Im Dezember 2007 verließ Robert Müller von Vultejus die Sportfive Gruppe und gründete 2008 zusammen mit ehemaligen hochrangingen Sportfive Mitarbeitern die neue UFA Sports GmbH, heutige U! Sports GmbH. Die UFA Sports GmbH wurde 2015 von der Lagardère Sports Gruppe gekauft und gehört seitdem zum globalen Netzwerk von Lagardère Sports and Entertainment.

Moritz Müller-Wirth, born in 1963 in Karlsruhe, has been Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the weekly newspaper Die ZEIT since January 2011. In addition, he took over the position of Editor-in-Chief at Feuilleton from 2011 to 2013. The trained bookseller and publisher studied Politics and History in Freiburg, Munich and Rome, Italy. After three years of working at the “Focus“, Müller-Wirth continued his career in Berlin, writing for the “Tagesspiegel” between 1994 and 1999. Leaving the publishing house after two years as Deputy Head of the Culture department, he became the Feuilleton Correspondent of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung“ until 2001. Shortly after, his career at Die ZEIT began, where he led the department Reisen/Leben (Travel/Life) for three years before becoming a member of the editorship in 2004. In 2015 he was awarded “Journalist of the year” (Sport Section) by medium magazine for his work with the former football player Thomas Hitzelsberger. Müller-Wirth is co-author of “Führungsspiel – Menschen begeistern, Teams formen, Siegen lernen“ that he wrote with Bernhard Peters and Hans-Dieter Hermann.

Born in Hamburg, she is also active as a field presenter at DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga for the international broadcasters and as an event presenter. Lisa Ramuschkat studied communication science and psychology in the Bachelor in Munich as well as sports, business and communications in the master course of studies in in Munich and in San Diego, California.

Maria Teixidor (Barcelona, 8 October 1975; member 45.277) is a graduate in law from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and she is a lawyer, mediator and businesswoman in the LegalTech sector. She has developed her career as an advisor to cultural companies, publishers, foundations, associations and technological start-ups, also specialising in the area of alternative conflict resolution, again, on-line. Partner in BCN RESOL ODR SOLUTIONS, S.L, she created the first application for detecting bullying and mediation in schools. She is also a director of MPD – Modelo de Prevención de Delitos, S.L., which designs, produces and implements a model for the prevention of crime.
After the elections of 18 July 2015, Teixidor joined the FC Barcelona Board of Directors as vice-secretary. In October 2015 she was nominated vice president and secretrary of the FC Barcelona Foundation, positions she held until December 2017 when she assumed new responsibilities in the Club’s sporting area. On 11 February she is named secretary of the Board of Directors.
Currently, she is responsible for Women’s Football (since January 2018); President of the Club Control and Transparency Commission (from September 2017); as well as President of the Grup Edelmira Calvetó (from January 2017, member since October 2015) which is an entity set up by the Board with the intention of reclaiming the legacy of the role of women in FC Barcelona’s history and as members, promote women’s participation at the club and debate the role of women in sport. As a director, she oversees activities related to children and to older people such as the FCB Senate and the Casal de l’Avi. She also represents the Club at the Women and Sport Working Group that forms part of the Barcelona City Council’s Municipal Committee for Sport.
Since May 2017 she has been a member of the United Nations Association and from March 2018 she has a member of the 50a50 Association which acts as a lobby to promote women’s representation all spheres of influence in society, advancing women’s participation and equality in decision making bodies in all areas. Previously, in 2013-16, she was a board member of the Secció de Tecnologies de la Informació de l’Il·lustre Col·legi de l’Advocacia in Barcelona.

The architect of Major League Soccer’s business plan, Mark Abbott was named president and deputy commissioner of Major League Soccer on June 19, 2013. He has been instrumental in many of the League’s accomplishments since he became the organization’s first employee in 1993, three years before MLS’ first season. As president and deputy commissioner, he leads and manages all areas of League operations and competition, including product strategy, player relations, strategic planning and communications. Abbott also leads a new business development group to address new areas of opportunity for the League and Soccer United Marketing.

Along with MLS Commissioner Don Garber, Abbott is the league’s primary contact in discussions with potential investors and expansion cities.

Abbott was the principal author of the League’s business plan, ultimately approved by FIFA as a legacy of World Cup USA 1994, the most successful World Cup in history. He played a primary role in creating the League’s structure and negotiating with the initial investor-operator group.

As the League’s senior vice president of business affairs, he played a key role in the launch of MLS in 1996, earning the League the “Sports Industrialist of the Year” award from the Sports Business Daily industry publication. Abbott was promoted to chief operating officer in 1997 and became MLS president in 2006. He was named to Sports Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 in both 2001 and 2002.

Prior to joining MLS, Abbott practiced law as an associate of MLS Founder Alan I. Rothenberg with Latham & Watkins, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and commercial law.

Abbott earned his law degree in 1989 from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley, Abbott was the Managing Editor of the California Law Review. Abbott is a 1986 graduate of Georgetown University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Foreign Service degree in international economics, cum laude, and an honors certificate in international business diplomacy.

Jochen Breyer ist eines der bekanntesten Gesichter der Sportberichterstattung im deutschen Fernsehen. Er moderiert seit 2013 die legendäre Sendung „Das Aktuelle Sportstudio“ im ZDF, dazu war er sechs Jahre lang Host der Champions League Abende im ZDF an der Seite von Oliver Kahn. Im Sommer 2018 moderierte er als Anchor die Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft im ZDF

Jochen Breyer ist jedoch nicht auf die Sportberichterstattung festgelegt. Der studierte Politikwissenschaftler moderiert seit 2011 das ZDF-Morgenmagazin und dreht seit einigen Jahren gesellschaftspolitische Reportagen.

Als Moderator privater Events wird er für Podiumsdiskussionen, Foren, Kongresse und Gala-Abende gebucht – besonders gerne in den Bereichen Sport und Politik.

Zur Saison 2007/08 wurde er zu Hannover 96 geholt, hier blieb er bis zu seinem Vertragsende, bevor er anschließend zur Winterpause der Saison 2010/11 zu Borussia Mönchengladbach wechselte. Nachdem er von 2013 bis 2014 Teil der Fußballmannschaft des SC Freiburg war, wechselte er zum Juli 2014 zum chinesischen Erstligisten Guizhou Renhe. Hier blieb er bis zur Beendigung seiner sportlichen Karriere im Dezember 2014.

Hanke ist Investor und Gesellschafter eines Fußball-Lifestyleportals für Profifußballspieler, Fans und Marken namens tivela.com. Seit 2012 ist er mit seiner langjährigen Freundin verheiratet, sie haben zwei gemeinsame Kinder. Im Februar 2018 schloss sich Hanke seinem Jugendverein TuS 1910 Wiescherhöfen an, bei dem er 1989 erstmals mit dem Fußballspielen begonnen hatte.

In 2015, international entertainment company, MTG, acquired a majority stake in ESL, marking the first acquisition of an esports company by a traditional media organization.

Heute ist der gebürtige Frankfurter als Unternehmer tätig. Seit 2010 ist Phillip Holzer Mitglied des Aufsichtsrates beim Bundesligisten Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG.

Alexander Jobst studierte Sportökonomie an der Universität Bayreuth und stieg direkt nach seinem Studienabschluss im Jahr 2000 als Sponsoring Manager bei der Siemens AG ein.
Nach fünfjähriger Tätigkeit bei der Siemens AG bekleidete Alexander Jobst ab 2005 als erster Ausländer bei Real Madrid die Position des „Head of International Development“, bevor er im Jahr 2007 als Head of Sales zur Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) wechselte. Seit 2011 ist er mittlerweile als Vorstandsmitglied beim FC Schalke 04 tätig und verantwortet das Ressort Marketing.
Der Universität Bayreuth ist er treu geblieben: seit 2010 ist Alexander Jobst Mitglied des Wirtschaftsbeirats für den Alumniverein der Sportökonomie an der Uni Bayreuth.

Philipp Lahm ist einer der weltweit renommiertesten Fußballspieler: Er war von 2004 bis 2014 deutscher Nationalspieler und führte die Mannschaft als Kapitän 2014 in Brasilien zum Weltmeistertitel. Von 2011-2017 war er Kapitän des FC Bayern München, der 2013 das Triple aus Deutscher Meisterschaft, DFB-Pokal und Champions League gewann.
Er ist Ehrenspielführer der deutschen Fußball-Nationalmannschaft und Botschafter der Bewerbung des Deutschen Fußball-Bundes um die Ausrichtung der UEFA EURO 2024.
2007 gründete Philipp Lahm seine Stiftung für Sport und Bildung. Mit dieser ist er in Deutschland und Südafrika aktiv – hier geht es in allen Projekten um eine ganzheitliche und nachhaltige Erziehung.
Mittlerweile ist der Campus Bad Aibling das Herz der unternehmerischen Tätigkeiten von Philipp Lahm. Dort entwickelt er zusammen mit Experten und Partnern Strategien und Maßnahmen, die dazu beitragen sollen, seine beiden Unternehmen Sixtus und Schneekoppe agil und zukunftsfähig aufzustellen.

Christian Seifert ist Geschäftsführer der DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied im Präsidium des DFL e.V. und Vizepräsident des Deutschen Fußball-Bundes (DFB).
Zuvor war Christian Seifert Vorstandsvorsitzender der KarstadtQuelle New Media AG, wo er u.a. das damalige DSF (heute SPORT1) und die Merchandisingrechte an der FIFA WM 2006 erwarb sowie das Engagement des Unternehmens im Bereich E- und TV-Commerce forcierte. Bei MTV Networks war der gebürtige Badener zuvor von 1998 bis 2000 als Direktor Marketing in Zentraleuropa für Endkunden- und Eventmarketing sowie neue Medien zuständig, nachdem er bei der MGM Media Gruppe München von 1995 bis 1998 zum Leiter Produkt Management aufgestiegen war.
Als Geschäftsführer ist Christian Seifert verantwortlich für die operative und strategische Führung der DFL, für die er seit 2005 tätig ist. Seitdem wurden mehr als zehn Milliarden Euro an Medienerlösen erzielt. Seit der Saison 2005/06 ist eine Steigerung von 287 Prozent zu verzeichnen. Die DFL gilt mit ihren Tochterunternehmen unter anderem im Bereich der Stadionproduktion und Datenerhebung sowie dem weltweit größten Fußballarchiv heute als eine der angesehensten professionellsten Sport-Organisationen der Welt.

Brian Sullivan is President and Chief Operating Officer of Fox Networks Group (FNG). In this position, he has a broad operational role across FNG and directly oversees revenue and distribution for the Fox Television Group, FX, FOX Sports and National Geographic Partners. Sullivan joined 21st Century Fox in June 2015 as President & COO of Fox Networks Group’s Digital Consumer Group, where he led digital strategy for all FNG’s network brands, drove growth across FNG’s portfolio of authenticated streaming products, and harnessed digital opportunities around data, monetization and ad serving. In that role, Sullivan oversaw the introduction of a new streaming experience allowing live and on-demand viewing of FNG cross-network programming across all its authenticated apps including the first live primetime broadcast on an app in more than 200 markets nationally, and the first local ad insertion. Sullivan has served as a member of the Hulu Board of Directors since 2016, and joined the Board of Directors for National Geographic Partners in 2018. Sullivan a native of Philadelphia, previously spent nearly two decades in Europe in a variety of leadership roles in the pay TV arena. Before joining Fox, Mr. Sullivan was CEO of Sky Deutschland, Germany’s top pay TV provider, leading it through one of Europes largest ever media turnarounds and into an unprecedented period of growth, with the service’s customer base increasing almost 70% during his tenure. Previously, he spent 14 years at BSkyB, most recently as Managing Director of BSkyB’s Customer Group, using a specific focus on customers and innovation to help launch the original Sky Digital service, as well as Sky+, Sky HD, Sky Broadband and Sky Go, and driving the business to over 10 million customers. Earlier, Mr. Sullivan held various roles in the pay TV industry in the U.S., including time spent at Viacom’s Showtime Networks. He attended Villanova University, is married and has three children.
